Paris Long queues at petrol pumps, growing anger among drivers: In France, petrol and diesel have been in short supply for a few days. According to the Ministry of Energy, more than 20 percent of the gas stations had supply problems on Saturday, in some areas, especially in the north of the country, the value was more than 40 percent.

The news comes at a time when governments across Europe are warning of gas shortages and power outages. But the situation at the gas stations in the neighboring country has at best only an indirect connection to the energy crisis – it is a very French problem.

The government in Paris is reassuring with statements like that of Environment Minister Christophe Béchu that there will be no nationwide rationing of fuel. In particularly affected regions, however, there are already restrictions – for example a ban on filling up reserve canisters.
