Why Don’t MacBooks Have Touchscreen Capability?

After moving to touch phones, our digital product habits have changed a lot. We started to prefer that not only phones but even watches do not touch. Touch laptops of some brands have also been released, but Apple has never taken a step in this direction.

While iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches are touchscreen, such a feature was never developed for the MacBook. Moreover, although other brands have already developed the touch feature.

Not lagging behind other brands On the contrary, Apple, which took pioneering steps, why didn’t they attempt to add touch capability to their laptops?

Craig Federighi, one of Apple’s chief software developers, has an answer to this question.

Federighi made a statement on this subject in 2018 and said: “We designed MacBooks to be most comfortable for you to use. The ergonomics of using a Mac is to have your hands resting on a surface and touching the screen. raising your arm We know it’s pretty tiring.”

Instead of a touch screen, Apple designed a panel called the touch bar.

The panel above the MacBook keyboard, for touchscreen operation was designed. From this panel you could edit “setup”, use Siri, access function keys and use it to do things from different apps.

Although it was difficult at first, it was certain that it would be more practical after a while to touch an area close to the keyboard instead of raising your hand to the screen every time. However, Apple users did not find this bar useful and in Pro models released in 2021, the old keyboard was returned.

Another reason the company did not add touch functionality to its laptops is that it wants to protect iPads.

Many brands other than Apple have adopted touchscreen technology and deployed on laptops but Apple wants to keep the difference between its laptop and iPad.

In addition, Steve Jobs said in 2010:

“We did tons of user testing on this and it turned out to be not working. Touchpads don’t want to be vertical. It gives a great demo but After a short time you start to get tired. Ergonomically it sucks.”

For now, such an initiative does not appear in Apple’s future.

The company’s software developers and designers don’t seem to have any plans to bring touch functionality to MacBooks’ screens. On the contrary, this feature will not be useful they believe.

Moreover, touchscreen laptops Although it seems interesting at first It cannot be said that there are not many users using the touch feature at the moment.
