Dusseldorf Most online retailers still allow customers to return their orders free of charge if they don’t like the products. But the demands are getting louder to abolish free returns for sustainability reasons, in order to reduce the number of returns and thus the number of parcels sent overall. Will customers therefore soon have to pay the postage for returns themselves?
No, at least that’s what Amazon Germany boss Rocco Bräuniger says in an interview with the Handelsblatt: “Our customers still want free returns.” And that’s why nothing should change about Amazon’s free returns. “Our return rate is already three times lower than the industry average,” he reports.
A number of other large suppliers, especially in the fashion sector, continue to allow customers to return their items free of charge. Other online retailers, on the other hand, want consumers to share in the costs in the future.
