Which cities are attractive for commuters around Cologne

The Beethoven city is about as expensive as Cologne. For real bargains, interested parties have to go far into the surrounding area.

Dusseldorf Brühl or Kerpen, the Schneider* family from Cologne is currently faced with a decision. Despite the sharp rise in construction interest rates, they are trying to hold on to the dream of owning their own home for their small family. In Brühl they have been granted a leasehold property, in Kerpen they could use building land from their circle of acquaintances. Every evening they ponder whether they want to take on one of the projects despite the rising construction costs.

It is a typical example of the Cologne area. The prices in the city have been too high for many families for years, and even before the pandemic and the Ukraine war, the surrounding communities were often the only alternative. Because of inflation and interest rate shocks, many families’ budgets have shrunk further, and they calculate even more precisely.
