WhatsApp is getting two useful new features

The latest Android beta versions of WhatsApp have revealed two new features coming to the app. The new in-app search and Private Group setting for Communities aim to provide users with more freedom and privacy.

The new WhatsApp beta version, released last evening, gave us a preview of some new features coming to the application. These features, discovered in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.9.28, include an in-app search and a new Secret Group setting for Communities.

In-app calling was discovered in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.9.28. While it’s unclear how WhatsApp plans to implement this, the presence of a standalone call button in the app suggests that the platform may soon allow users to contact unregistered contacts by directly dialing their phone number.

This makes sense because it was previously revealed that WhatsApp is also working on a way for users to quickly start chats with unsaved contacts. It was a feature requested by users for a long time.

A call button would be a welcome addition to WhatsApp because a person does not want to unnecessarily save people they have just met or plan to interact with only once or twice. Users will also have the option to use their internet connection by simply calling through the app, without saving a phone number to their contact list first.

The new Private Group feature also aims to keep Community groups private. The feature was discovered in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.9.27 and has not yet been rolled out to all beta testers. It appears that the feature will only allow invited members to find and join a community group. Only community administrators can find and remove the group from the community.
