What you need to know about the relief now

Berlin Gas and electricity price brakes are becoming more and more concrete. This Wednesday, the federal cabinet will decide on the first parts of the relief measures. The rest should follow in the coming weeks, so that the first funds can flow in December.

However, it is not so easy to see who can get how much of what. There are differences between gas and electricity customers, between smaller and larger consumers, between immediate surcharges and the actual price brakes.

Here are the answers to the most important questions:

When will the emergency gas aid come?

Because gas with the actual price brake does not work that quickly, the federal government wants to bridge the critical situation with a one-off payment. This should be credited to gas customers on their December bill.

In addition to private households, other consumers, such as commercial enterprises, are also entitled to claim. However, their consumption must not exceed 1500 megawatt hours per year. Irrespective of their consumption, rehabilitation clinics, care facilities, schools and universities can also take advantage of the immediate surcharge. District heating customers also receive a surcharge.
