Frankfurt Goldman Sachs proclaims “Web 3.0”. Web 2.0, it is said, was a shift from the desktop to mobile devices and from local storage to the cloud. For 3.0, a five-person Goldman team sees the emergence of the so-called Metaverse, the creation of a virtual world populated by avatars, i.e. human-like artificial characters, as a decisive element.
Facebook plays a decisive role here: the group has just renamed itself Meta Platforms. In addition, Roblox, a specialist in video games, has gone public. Goldman mentions Snap, Nvidia and Google as other companies that are of interest in this context. Epic Games and Niantic Labs also play a key role. Both are not listed on the stock exchange.
The Metaverse has a long history going back to the early 1990s.
