Gas is currently costing more in Germany than ever before. For example, residents of poorly-insulated houses with poor energy efficiency have to adjust to price increases of 150 percent. On top of that, the gas surcharge will come from October 1st. The surcharge is levied so that the gas importers can still cover their immense costs for gas procurement.
Conversion is therefore the motto for many: The fear of winter and the still further exploding energy costs are causing many German house and apartment owners to look for alternatives. There is currently a lot of interest in electric heaters, i.e. heating systems that heat with electricity. From June to July alone, the demand for them increased by almost 350 percent, as data from the comparison portal Idealo shows.
But does it now make sense to switch to a new electric heating system? And what models are there? The Handelsblatt has investigated these questions.
