What are the features of TCG Derya and what will it be used for?
It is obvious that the training of the army, the vehicles and ammunition stocks in the inventory are very important in military operations and wars. However, the most important factor that directly affects the outcome of conflicts and wars that have been occurring for thousands of years has been logistical support. Because it is an essential need to deliver many things to the soldiers at the front, from fuel to food, from ammunition to first aid supplies.
Although it is relatively easy to do this in ground operations, a possible small disruption may cause the plans to be delayed for a few months. We saw the biggest example of this in Russia, which recently invaded Ukraine. Russia’s few weeks’ plan has already reached 5 months, as Ukraine targets logistics distribution routes to Kharkov and Donbas region.
New MİLGEMs are coming to Blue Vatan!
Defense Industry President İsmail Demir announced that 3 new MİLGEMs will come to Mavi Vatan with his social media accounts.
While the logistics support line is so important, it is necessary to think about it in terms of the Navy. Because as you move away from the mainland, the stamina in a possible situation decreases. At this point, ships like TCG Derya stand out with their features.
TCG Derya, a product of the project that was realized with the name of Marine Supply Combat Support Ship or DIMDEG for short, was developed to quickly refuel floating units with fuel and water, including helicopter fuel, by using the sea supply method.
In addition, it has the equipment to serve in disaster and emergency response and humanitarian aid. In addition, it will support the maintenance and repairs of manned / unmanned surface-underwater vehicles, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV / SİHA / GİHA) on board the ships at a certain level.
After TCG Anadolu’s entry into the inventory, it will have to travel with corvettes, frigates and TF-2000-style combat ships on the open seas. In this case, logistics ships like TCG Derya will be a great resource for the entire fleet in terms of supplies, ammunition, fuel and maintenance and repair of land, sea and air vehicles.
When we look at the physical characteristics of this ship, which was built by Sefine Shipyard, we see that it has a length of 194.8 m, a width of 24.4 meters, a displacement of 22 thousand tons, a range of 4,500 nautical miles, and a time at sea without resupply of more than 30 days.
Let’s say that the locality rate of this ship is very high. You can see some of the critical systems below. Although the date to enter the inventory has been announced as 2024, Defense Industry President İsmail Demir said that they are targeting 2023.
