“We will no longer talk about unemployment but rather about unemployment”

Dusseldorf When Petra von Strombeck became CEO of New Work SE in May 2020, Germany was in the middle of the first corona wave. Your task: to reorganize the company’s platforms, which include the Xing career network, the Kununu job evaluation platform and the e-recruiting product Prescreen.

The pandemic has not gone away since it first began; von Strombeck had almost 2000 employees, most of them from their home offices. In doing so, she also gained insights into the topics that concern her teams as well as employees and employers on Xing.

In the first episode of the year of Handelsblatt “Rethink Work”, the podcast about people, the new world of work and leadership, von Strombeck shares her findings and gives an outlook on what the world of work can expect in 2022.

Among other things, she says about the future of the home office: “There is an unprecedented level of flexibility. Many people, at least the knowledge workers in Germany, can work from home and will no longer allow these freedoms to be taken away from them. ”Nevertheless, Strombeck, who is a self-confessed office fan, expects the future to lie in hybrid working instead of completely remote.

In the future, employers will have to work even harder in the fight for top employees – also because the needs of employees have changed. “While in the past the career ladder was climbed so steeply and it was a question of salary and position, today people have a lot more breaks in their résumé. Because other things are important to them and then they also choose employers. ”According to von Strombeck, the subject of purpose, ie the meaningfulness of one’s own work, is becoming more and more important.

In the new episode “Rethink Work”, she tells who von Strombeck regards as the “hidden reserve” of employees in Germany, why she describes herself as a “goth” in her own company and how she feels about the evaluations of her own company on Kununu .
