Set up Apple Watch 8 and iPhone 14 series devices for emergency:

Traffic Accident Detection is turned on by default on supported iPhone and Apple Watch models. You can follow these steps to make sure your device can share the information your emergency contacts and emergency responders need:

• Set up your Medical ID and emergency contacts in the Health app to send alerts to your emergency contacts and share your Medical ID with emergency responders.
• Turn on Location Services for Emergency SOS to share your location with your emergency contacts,
• Go to Settings on your iPhone.
• Then click on Privacy and Security options.
• Go to Location Services here.
• Then tap System Services.
• Finally, make sure Emergency Calls and SOS are turned on.

How does the accident detection feature of the Apple Watch 8 and iPhone 14 series work?

The Traffic Accident Detection feature can detect serious traffic accidents such as front, side and rear crashes and rollovers involving sedans, minivans, SUVs, pickup trucks and other passenger car models. Then follow these steps:

• Your iPhone reads the alert aloud in case you can’t see the screen. If you only have your phone with you, an Emergency Call slider appears on the screen and your phone can call emergency services.
• Your Apple Watch plays a sound, vibrates on your wrist, and tries to communicate with you through the screen. If you only have the watch with you, an Emergency Call slider appears on the screen. If your watch is cellular or connected to a Wi-Fi network, it can call emergency services.
• If you have an iPhone and an Apple Watch with you, the Emergency Call slider will only appear on your watch, and the sound will come from your watch when the call is connected.
• If you can, you can call the emergency services or turn off the alert.
• If you cannot respond, your device will automatically call emergency services after a 20-second wait.
• If you’ve added emergency contacts, your device sends a message to share your location and let them know you’ve been in a serious car accident.
• If you have set up your Medical ID, a Medical ID slider will be displayed on your device so that emergency responders can access your medical information.
