“We expect interest rates to fall in 2024”

Frankfurt Marion Höllinger, the head of Hypo-Vereinsbank (HVB), expects more investments from German companies again from 2024. The willingness of many entrepreneurs to undertake major disruptive projects is currently very low, “but that is also because many companies assume that interest rates will fall again in the coming year. We also expect interest rates to fall in 2024,” says the banker in an interview with Handelsblatt.

The demand for construction financing will also increase again in the future, predicts Höllinger, who has been at the helm of the Unicredit subsidiary since March 2023. “We see from our customers that many of them could definitely afford to buy an apartment. But some buyers need to lower their standards.”
