Vienna No politician wants to mess with drivers. This is especially true at times when petrol and diesel prices are skyrocketing. That is why Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban already set an upper limit of 480 forints (1.21 euros) per liter for these fuels in mid-November 2021.

However, this has now completely thrown the market at the gas station out of balance – again and again there is a lack of fuel to meet demand. Orban and his entourage have overlooked the fact that an artificially low price stimulates consumer demand and leads to a shortage of supply. The first intervention in winter has therefore been followed by others, and the interventions are becoming more and more absurd.
