VfL Wolfsburg: Lukas Nmecha: “I always think that I’m the best” – Bundesliga

Wolfsburg-based Lukas Nmecha (22) always wants to see this.

In the 4-1 test against HSV, he shot the second division side out of the stadium almost single-handedly with a three-pack. The U21 European champion scored his second goal with a hoe. But he doesn’t seem to lack self-confidence anyway.

“I always try to apply for the starting XI and I have confidence,” says the attacker and emphasizes: “I always think that I’m the best striker.”

Nmecha sees himself as a top striker!

He has proven in the past that he has at least a lot of potential – and not just against HSV. With four stalls he got the top scorer cannon at the U21 European Championship and shot Germany to the title in the final against Portugal (1-0).

Now all he has to do is make the breakthrough with the wolves. Nmecha is not yet one of the absolute core strengths under coach Mark van Bommel (44).

“I am not yet one hundred percent satisfied. You always want to play more, ”says Nmecha. “But if I keep showing myself, I hope I get more stakes.”

What is still missing for an absolute beginner? “I have to play more. Through the games you learn especially as a striker, ”explains the native of Hamburg. “When you see Robert Lewandowski at Bayern like that – he’s getting better every season, even at his age. You have to mature on the position. “

Nmecha’s flexibility is a blessing and a curse. Usually he plays around Wolfsburg’s top striker Wout Weghorst (29). Nmecha is rarely allowed to play in his favorite position as a center forward.

“It’s difficult right now because I play everywhere. It is always difficult to specialize in one position, ”says Nmecha. “But on the other hand, you also improve.”

His big goal is the national team. National coach Hansi Flick (56) has the attacker on his extended nomination slip for a long time.
