Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest game publishers, has decided to add in-game NFT elements to its games, starting with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
With this initiative, Ubisoft has achieved the title of being “the first platform for playable and energy-efficient NFTs in AAA games”. The game, which will launch in beta this week with the PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, will allow players to acquire “Digits”, in-game tools, weapons and equipment pieces suitable for the collection.

Each Digit has its own serial number that is visible to other players in the game and comes with a certificate of ownership. Now players will be able to sell Digits on third-party platforms outside of the Ubisoft ecosystem.

Ubisoft Quartz is the first building block in our ambitious vision to develop a true metaverse.

Energy efficiency is a key requirement to achieve a future where blockchain technology can be widely used by millions of players. We chose Tezos for its original Proof-of-Stake network and leadership over clean NFTs.
Indeed, a transaction on the Tezos network uses the same amount of energy as a 30-second video stream. This low carbon footprint means that both developers and gamers can prioritize innovation without sacrificing sustainability.
Ubisoft Quartz will be available in beta starting December 9 in the US, Canada, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Australia and Brazil.
