How did the accident come about? The 80-year-old had apparently tried to overtake a car waiting in front of him on the right and hit the sidewalk. There he drove head-on into the group of five daycare children with their supervisors.

There are no indications of a sudden medical emergency, said a police spokesman. The 80-year-old was forbidden to continue driving. He is now being investigated for negligent bodily harm.
