MİLGEM has great importance among Turkey’s domestic and national defense industry projects. TCG KINALIADA, also known as F-514 Corvette, is the last ship of the MİLGEM ADA Class Corvette Project. It also has the title of being the youngest, or newest, corvette of the Turkish Naval Forces.

The ship set sail for Japan on a very special mission. To explain the special nature of the mission, we go back exactly 134 years. On July 14, 1889, Sultan II. Abdulhamid had the Ertuğrul Frigate prepared to reinforce the friendship with Japan and to visit the repatriation.

An agreement worth 4.8 million euros was signed between TAI and Airtificial for HÜRJET! So what is the scope of this agreement? Here are the details…

The frigate set out carrying the sultan’s sealed letter, a few special gifts and a token of gratitude. However, setbacks continued to haunt him. The ship got stuck in the sand in the Suez Canal on the second day of the journey, and suffered serious accidents such as hitting rocks in the following days. Exactly 11 months after setting off, the ship arrived in Japan and delivered the relics.

However, setbacks continued on the return journey. The cholera epidemic hit the ship first. 13 soldiers were martyred. Later, the ship was caught in a storm. After struggling with the giant waves for a long time, unfortunately the ship’s rudder broke and it began to drift. The ship drifted towards the rocks, suffered major damage and sank. Including the soldiers who were martyred due to the epidemic, only 69 of the crew of 607 in total survived.

Villagers in an area close to the rocks rushed to help. Thanks to them, the bodies of 260 martyrs were found. The bodies were buried in an area overlooking the cliff. Japan built a monument on this hill and then they built a Turkish Museum. Every year they commemorate the Ottoman sailors who lost their lives in accidents.

TCG KINALIADA is going to complete the task that Ertuğrul left unfinished after 134 years. So what do you think? Don’t forget to share your opinions with us in the comments section…
