Turkey’s first quantum research center is being established!

A signing ceremony was held at the Presidency building for 8 R&D projects initiated by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) last year. Here, President of Defense Industry İsmail Demir shared the studies on quantum research center and computers.

The first quantum research center is being established! Target quantum computers

Quantum computers are essentially computers that use theoretical computational systems that make direct use of quantum-mechanical phenomena such as superimposition and entanglement to operate on data.

The target set by the Presidency of Defense Industries is to achieve results that reveal invisible targets, cannot be blinded and change the game in the field as a result of the Lidar and Kudar projects. The way to achieve this is through quantum computers.

The statement made by İsmail Demir, President of Defense Industries, is as follows:

“I would like to let you know that we are now planning our ongoing work in the quantum field and taking action to take steps. Quantum technologies are no longer a topic of conversation, and we are starting concrete projects. We are planning to start the first Quantum Research Center activity of our country soon.

In order to meet the technical and tactical needs in the technology fields determined in line with the technology predictions, we are making large-area calls, where project proposals that do not include final product delivery, that are verified in analysis or prototypes, and that contain technical demonstrations are received from companies/institutions/organizations.

With these calls, we aim to provide faster and simultaneous access to the new technologies needed, we aim to direct the knowledge and experience of our academicians to critical technologies and to enable more than one project to be carried out using different technologies on the same subject. We expect proven outputs such as scale prototypes, theoretical and experimental results.

Criticality, situation in the world, human resources, infrastructure, dual use (in military and civil fields) and application criteria for supply projects carried out by our Agency for each sub-technology subject that emerged as a result of OTAG activities, which included serial meetings that lasted for about a year, with the participation of hundreds of people. We make certain prioritization analyzes, especially.

In line with the basic technology determined by the R&D Technology Roadmap and the vision of shaping the war concept of the future, advanced technology projects that will make our country a pioneer are supported. Our R&D projects benefit from a wide talent pool from platform manufacturers to SMEs, from research centers to universities.

Models to be created in cooperation with these stakeholders are particularly encouraged. In this way, system integration is provided to large-scale companies in the sector, subsystem and component development activities are provided to SMEs, and the development of needed technologies is provided by providing basic and applied research activities to research institutions and universities. With the cooperation and synergy created in this way, it is aimed to ensure the sustainable growth of the sector and to increase its competitiveness.

I would like to inform you that we are now planning our ongoing work in the quantum field and we are taking action to take steps. Quantum technologies are no longer a topic of conversation, and we are starting concrete projects.

Our Lidar and Kudar projects will be game-changing projects on the field that cannot be blinded or deceived, revealing invisible targets with quantum technology. Detection of targets that cannot be detected by conventional radars is of critical importance for country defense.

With the Lidar and Kudar projects, we will have taken a step towards a critical technology area and crossed a critical threshold before many other countries in the world. Important steps will be taken in this area. Our ultimate goal in quantum technologies is quantum computers.”
