According to the news of Cumhuriyet, TRT General Manager Sobacı took the floor at Stratcom Youth: International Young Communicators Forum held between 6-11 May. During his speech on “Public Broadcasting in the Age of Disinformation”, he made some statements about the streaming platforms that are in service in our country and will be added to the list in the coming months.
According to Sobacı, in the next year, that is, in 2023, TRT will start to build its Netflix competitor domestic platform. It is said that it may even enter service in the same year. He also said that TRT will establish a youth platform and will continue to invest in movies and games.
Speaking about social media and its impact on people, Sobacı said:
While it was claimed that social media would be an area where individuals could express their opinions more freely, it suddenly became a medium for fake news and disinformation. While promising a space of freedom in the digital age, we came across a social media that feeds on chaos, uncertainty and exaggeration.
70% of social media users say they use social media as a source of information and news. From the moment that social media assumed the function of being a source of information and news, it inevitably turned into areas where disinformation and manipulation were experienced intensely.
An environment where fake news, news in need of confirmation or misleading news, images are shared with the label of definite information without going through any control mechanism. A feature emerged from the nature of social media, and that is rapid spread. It allowed fake news to spread rapidly. Fake news has moved to a different point.
When we are exposed to countless reports, when we lose our ability to think about an event, when disinformation is added to it, we go to a fruitless process. This pushes the individual into meaninglessness. A time when the boundaries between truth and lies are blurred
