Traffic Lights Will Now Light Up According to Emergency Vehicles

A new project has been launched to ensure that emergency vehicles are minimally exposed to traffic jams. The project, which was piloted in Istanbul, has already yielded positive results.

Emergency vehicles such as ambulance and fire brigade can be stuck in traffic consisting of traffic lights as well as vehicular traffic. In order to prevent this situation, a new pilot application was started in Turkey. Istanbul Informatics and Smart City Technologies (ISBAK) The project, initiated by A.Ş., ensures that emergency vehicles do not get stuck in traffic at traffic lights.

In the pilot project started in Fatih district of Istanbul, emergency vehicles are automatically detected remotely and traffic lights are shaped according to these vehicles. In the pilot implementation of the project, this application worked successfully for the first time. An emergency vehicle was detected 400 meters behind in Fatih, and the traffic lights in front of it turned green.

The lights turn green in the direction of emergency vehicles:

The project was initiated by ISBAK with the development of V2x technology, which is used in smart transportation systems and autonomous vehicle applications around the world. Technology, integrated into transportation management systems. The project prioritizes emergency vehicles at signalized intersections and ensures that they leave the intersections with minimal delay.

In the pilot implementation of the project, a junction in Fatih, located on the route most used by the fire brigade, was selected. The unit on the emergency vehicles transmits their position to the system on the roadside, and this system transmits the status. to the intersection controller transmitting. Thus, a special program for emergency vehicles comes into play at traffic lights.
