Berlin After France announced that it would be supplying reconnaissance tanks to Ukraine, the pressure on the German government also increased. Defense politicians in the traffic light coalition are unanimously calling for tanks from Germany to be handed over to Ukraine. Leopard 2 main battle tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles would be considered.
“Once again, the other partner countries are going first,” wrote the Chair of the Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP), on Twitter. “Now we can finally get started in the spirit of Franco-German friendship, right?” she asked, addressing Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) directly. The security policy spokeswoman for the Greens, Sara Nanni, made a similar statement to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.
