Threat of hacker attack for some smart TV models!

We are all used to hacker attacks on computers by now. However, all kinds of devices we use are now getting smarter. Smart TV models with their own processor and operating system are one of them. Here are the smart TV brands and their models that are targeted by hackers.

LG, which could not achieve the success it wanted in the smartphone market, also suffered a significant blow in the smart TV world. Accordingly, hackers targeted smart TV models using versions 4 to 7 of the WebOS TV software.

Accordingly, the WebOS versions in these models allow hackers to infiltrate the system. Hackers can add themselves as users to the device in these models. The purpose of the service that causes this vulnerability is to provide LAN access. However, somehow hackers managed to infiltrate LG smart TV models through this connection.

Hackers don’t just add themselves as users to LG smart TV models. Thanks to this vulnerability, the attacker who infiltrates the system can overcome the firewalls and gain full authority over the smart TV model.

LG has officially sold its phone patents. It was reported that the patents regarding audio and video standards obtained in the USA were transferred to Oppo.

Once attackers gain full authorization, accessing personal information and personal media on the TV becomes child’s play.

LG released an update for its smart TV models shortly after the hacker attack. LG rolled out the update for this smart TV hacker attack yesterday, April 10. Here are the LG smart TV models that have this vulnerability and are vulnerable to attack:

  • LG43UM7000PLA running webOS 4.9.7 – 5.30.40
  • OLED55CXPUA running webOS 5.5.0 – 04.50.51
  • OLED48C1PUB running webOS 6.3.3-442 (kisscurl-kinglake) – 03.36.50
  • OLED55A23LA running webOS 7.3.1-43 (mullet-mebin) – 03.33.85

LG announced that this hacking vulnerability for smart TV models has been completely closed with this update. However, it is not yet clear how many models were affected by the attack due to this vulnerability. The news that will reassure us is that none of these models are sold in Turkey.

Do you think the hacker threat for smart TV models is worrying? Do you think such dangers will hurt us more as the devices we use become smarter? We are waiting your comments.
