Dusseldorf In Germany, the name Carrier Global is more familiar in specialist circles – but with the purchase of the Hessian heating specialist Viessmann it is suddenly a big news topic. The US company, which was founded around 100 years ago and is based in Florida, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of air conditioning and heating systems.

Last year, the publicly listed Carrier Global made total sales of more than 20 billion US dollars in 160 countries. Carrier employs 52,000 people worldwide. “The acquisition of Viessmann Climate Solutions is a groundbreaking opportunity,” said David Gitlin, Chairman and CEO of Carrier, on Tuesday about the billion-euro deal.

At the same time, the purchase seals Carrier’s exit from the traditional fire protection and security business. This includes, among other things, the production and sale of fire alarms, co-warning devices or sprinkler systems. The segment has so far accounted for almost 20 percent of operating profit. Last year, Carrier earned a total of $2.8 billion. “Fire & Security” contributed $541 million.
