Frankfurt Whether owners in Germany will soon be forced by the Building Energy Act to only install climate-friendly heating systems such as heat pumps is still being discussed. However, anyone who owns an older building should take care of the thermal insulation.

Because the EU is considering an obligation to renovate, and fossil fuels will become significantly more expensive from next year due to the expansion of EU emissions trading to include transport and buildings. The price for the CO2 tax will rise from the current 30 euros to 65 euros per ton by 2026.

The comparison portal Check24 has calculated that a single-family home heated with heating oil (annual consumption: 20,000 kWh) incurs additional costs of 23 percent. After that, CO2 prices could rise to 200 to 300 euros per ton, experts from the MCC Institute warn. Politicians want to cushion the burden with climate money, for example, but nothing is certain yet.
