Dusseldorf From this autumn, gas traders will be able to pass on their increased purchase prices to consumers. This increases the costs for companies and private households enormously.

This is to prevent individual suppliers such as Uniper from failing, which could result in a collapse of the energy supply. Uniper is one of the largest gas traders in Germany and supplies hundreds of companies and municipal utilities.

With the amendment to the Energy Security Act (EnSig) at the beginning of July, the federal government created many opportunities to prevent systemically important companies from going bankrupt.

How does the levy work?

The “net price adjustment” is a recently created tool that allows struggling gas traders to pass on their massively increased purchase prices to consumers. This is regulated by paragraph 26 of the Energy Security Act.
