Dusseldorf According to Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens), the new gas levy is intended to protect importers from collapsing despite the lack of deliveries from Russia. According to Handelsblatt research, only a few of the twelve companies that are to be supported with 34 billion euros according to initial estimates are dependent on state aid. Quite the contrary: Most of them are doing pretty well when you look at the numbers.

According to its own statement, the federal government is not allowed to reveal which companies are involved with reference to the trade secret. However, research by the Handelsblatt has shown that, in addition to the gas importer Uniper, the EnBW subsidiary VNG and the regional supplier EWE, the importer Sefe (formerly Gazprom Germania), the Austrian OMV and the Swiss trading company Axpo have also claimed additional costs for the levy. The companies confirmed this on request.
