There was an earthquake felt in Istanbul!

In the evening hours today, an earthquake occurred in Istanbul and the surrounding provinces. According to the first statement made by the Kandilli Observatory, the earthquake was centered in Ayvacık-Dursunbey (Balıkesir). It was also stated that it occurred at 22:31.


AFAD Emergency Call application against natural disasters is published

Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) Presidency, affiliated to the Ministry of Interior, introduced its new application to be used in natural disasters.

The earthquake is 4.8 magnitude!

According to the announced data, the 4.8-magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 7.2 km at 22:31. As the epicenter, the Ayvacık-Dursunbey region of Balikesir and the location 39°34’47.3″N 28°48’38.5″E were indicated by Kandilli. A statement from the authorities is currently awaited.

After the earthquake, many people shared on social media that they felt a severe shaking. Although it can be felt in Istanbul and the surrounding provinces, it is said that the European side is not affected much, and it reflects its severity on the Marmara region in general.

No statement has been made yet regarding the damage caused by the earthquake, whether there were injuries or loss of life. For this reason, it is expected that the authorities will share a status report on the subject.
