Ethena Labs (ENA Coin) adds Bitcoin to its stablecoin
Ethena Labs, the decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol behind the USDe synthetic dollar, has made a significant move. In this context, it announced the addition of Bitcoin as the supporting asset for its stablecoin. The move aims to enable USDe to scale significantly and deliver a safer product for users as investors increasingly embrace the resurgence of the world’s oldest cryptocurrency.
This decision comes as Bitcoin derivatives markets have outperformed their Ether-based counterparts. According to data provided by Ethena, Bitcoin’s open interest increased by 150% last year, reaching 25 billion dollars. Ether’s open interest increased by only 100% in the same period, reaching 10 billion dollars. This significant liquidity offered by BTC derivative markets is the main factor driving Ethena’s strategic move.
