The U.S. Treasury Department is seeking public opinion, including the crypto community, on how digital assets can be used in illegal activities and how the department should respond.

The Department of the Treasury, which released an announcement today, listed more than 20 questions.

It also noted that various federal officials, including the Secretary of the Treasury, Attorney General, Secretary of Homeland Security, Director of National Intelligence and Secretary of State, will create a “coordinated plan of action” to address potential national security risks posed by digital assets.

“Increased use of digital assets in financial activities increases crime types such as money laundering, terrorism and arms financing, fraud, theft schemes and corruption,” the announcement said.

Questions in the announcement range from how crypto can be used in illicit financing and what risks it poses, to the role of anti-money laundering and terrorism financing rules.

The federal government had prepared a series of reports on the decree signed by Biden in March 2022.

In the report released last week, the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Justice, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Commerce Departments discussed various aspects of the cryptocurrency ecosystem in the United States.
