Berlin Zaporizhia – a few months ago, hardly anyone outside of Ukraine knew the name of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. But since Russia’s war of aggression, the situation there has become increasingly dangerous: Moscow and Kiev are accusing each other of an allegedly imminent attack on the reactor in the south of the country.

On Tuesday evening, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned in his daily video address that the Russian military had placed objects resembling explosives on the roofs of several reactor blocks.

Moscow, on the other hand, said the Ukrainian armed forces themselves were planning an attack on the nuclear power plant, which is close to the front. The representations cannot be independently verified.

Depending on the radiation intensity in the event of a blast, this would have terrible consequences for the local population. Hamster purchases are said to already be taking place in the region, and security forces, paramedics and the police are also trying to evacuate in the event of an emergency.
