OpenAI created a big agenda when its co-founder and CEO Sam Altman was suddenly fired in recent months. Altman, who returned after the company’s employees put pressure on the board of directors, was officially reinstated as the CEO of OpenAI.
OpenAI CEO officially becomes Sam Altman
OpenAI hired the law firm WilmerHale to independently investigate the circumstances surrounding Altman’s dismissal. The report prepared by the office said that although the previous board had the right to dismiss Altman, it did not do so in an “ethical manner.”
He found that Sam Altman was fired in a very short period of time and there was no response. The report also stated that Altman’s behavior did not justify his dismissal.
In light of these findings, OpenAI’s current board of directors was reorganized. While Sam Altman officially became the CEO of OpenAI, Greg Brockman was reappointed as the President of the company.
Some changes were made with the new management. These include new guidelines for artificial intelligence, a tip line, and the addition of three new board members. It was reported that these members will be Sue Desmond-Hellmann, Nicole Seligman and Fidji Simo.
The leadership change appears to be a turning point for OpenAI, which wants to safely develop passing AI. Innovations in independent investigation and governance can help restore confidence going forward.
