Berlin Germany is fighting the current energy crisis with enormous sums of money. So far, the federal government has spent around 29.5 billion euros of the money deposited in the Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF). This emerges from a classified list from the Federal Ministry of Economics, which is available to the Handelsblatt.

The expenditures are just the beginning of the large-scale aid against the energy crisis. The traffic light has prepared 200 billion euros for this via loans. At the end of September, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) announced the “double boom” to alleviate the consequences of the exploding gas and electricity prices for citizens and companies.

In order to still comply with the debt brake in 2023, the federal government parked the money in the WSF. Formally, the funds are not part of the budget.

While there was initially great agreement on the first use of the funds, discussions are now erupting about the further use of the money. A good 170 billion euros are currently still available in the fund – so there is a lot to distribute.
