Xbox Series S to the new generation in the console world in 2020 | We debuted with Series X and PlayStation 5. The previous generation, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, were released in 2013. So there are 7 years between them. Xbox’s planned date for its next generation console has a similar range.
Next generation Xbox consoles will be released in 2028
The next generation models of Microsoft’s current game consoles, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, will apparently not be released until 2028.
The information is based on conversations between company executives that were recently made public in federal court filings following the Federal Trade Commission’s failed attempt to block Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard in June.
In minutes from a May 2022 meeting first released recently by the Northern District Court of California, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella asked whether the plan for 2028 is to stick to the goal of a single main platform for developers to make games, or something similar to the range of features seen on PC. He can be seen asking “whether it is?” Judging by other managers’ responses, the answer seems to be a combination of the two.
Corporate Vice President Kevin Gammill, in conversations made public in court filings “We started this journey with Xbox One and One We continue with X. “We need to be even more flexible going forward with the 10th generation, while also ensuring that creators can take advantage of unique hardware features.” He expressed the situation as follows.
Plans are always subject to change, but this shift suggests Microsoft will double down on its current multi-model approach, and the Series S will be weaker but more affordable than the Series X, a more direct rival to Sony’s equivalent PlayStation 5.
2028 will also make the current ninth-generation console cycle one of the longest. There were six years between PS2 and PS3, and seven years between Xbox One and Series X/S. What are you thinking? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
