A full-size aircraft carrier will be built after TCG Anadolu!
The construction of TCG Anadolu (L-400), which was first started in 2014, was completed and launched by Sedef Shipyard. After the tests, the assembly of the electronic systems started. It is scheduled to enter service by the end of this year.
But TCG Anadolu is not actually an aircraft carrier. It is an amphibious assault ship with a short and sloping runway that allows some jet-powered aircraft to land and take off under certain conditions. In other words, its primary purpose is to land vehicles and soldiers of the Land Forces in a region during the war. It also supports this operation with aircraft.
On the other hand, the full-size aircraft carrier, whose project and subsequent construction is expected to start by 2023, will not have amphibious features. Instead, it will host at least 2 or 3 squadrons (at least 12-18 units) of jet fighter jets. Of course, it will sail along with other frigates under its command while cruising at sea.
In this way, it will be able to operate outside of Turkey’s land and sea borders – in regions where we do not have a military land or air base. For example, in a war situation or during an operation, TCG Anadolu will act together with our other ships in any region in the world, ensuring the security of both land, sea and airspace.
Of course, at the moment, it is not known whether this ship will be developed entirely with domestic resources or within the framework of cooperation and partnership. Also, its possible technical specifications and platforms are uncertain. However, we can say that Hürjet, MİUS/KIZILELMA, National Combat Aircraft and all UAV-SİHAs can be used.
