Dusseldorf Once upon a time, startups valued at more than $1 billion were called unicorns because they were so extraordinary. But according to the CB Insights database, there are now more than 900 such venture capital-financed companies worldwide that are not yet listed on the stock exchange.

The new fable companies are called Decacorns and Hectocorns because they are valued at more than tens and even hundreds of billions of dollars. This is ensured by an unchecked influx of venture capital.

Byte Dance: Tiktok’s parent company is the most valuable startup in the world. It would probably have been ready for the stock market long ago. However, Bytedance founder Zhang Yiming has withdrawn plans for an IPO in 2021 for the time being. The reason is China’s rigid approach to tech companies. Investments in Bytedance include the Softbank Vision Fund I.
