Mengü Ertel has an important place in the Turkish art world.

Mengü Ertel, who was born in Istanbul in 1931, was interested in theater at a young age and worked as an extra and dubbing. After graduating from the Department of Fine Arts Decoration/Ornamental Arts cinema and theater decorations became curious. In the 1960s, he designed posters for all the private theaters of his time.

Ertel, who designed more than 150 posters for the theater throughout his life, held his first exhibition of theater posters in 1969 while continuing his decor work. At the Turkish German Cultural Center opened. The exhibitions in which he later participated and received many awards were as follows:

  • Warsaw Poster Biennial (1966, 1968, 1976, 1978, 1980)
  • Brno Graphic Biennale (1970, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1980)
  • Pergamon Exhibition opened in Gelheim Am Rhe-in (Germany) (1972)
  • Frechen (Germany) 3rd Graphic Biennial (1974)
  • Cannes 2nd International Cinema Posters Exhibition (1974)
  • Paris Film Posters Exhibition (1975)
  • Intergraphik in East Berlin (1976)
  • Melbourne (Australia) International Poster Exhibition (1977)
  • International Exhibition of Brecht Posters in East Berlin (1978)
  • Lahti (Finland) Poster Biennial (1979)

He is also the Turkish graphic artist who opened the most exhibitions and was elected a member of the International Poster Association. first Turkish graphic artist has the title.
