With Look at upcoming transformation processes industry in Germany towards climate neutrality hat Green party leader Annalena Baerbock promoted European solutions. “Our claim is nothing else: to shape Europe as the first climate-neutral continent in the next few years and thus to secure the prosperity and also the industrial location of Europe”, said Baerbock at a congress of the industrial union IG BCE on Wednesday in Hanover.
If Europe does not act together, the continent cannot develop a common clout. But this is necessary, after all, Europe is not in a neutral world. “China is not only in industrial competition, but also in systems competition with us Europeans,” said Baerbock. The Greens co-leader advocated applying Europe’s competition rules not only in the internal market, but also in third countries – such as foreign investors who were subject to subsidy guidelines.
With the “Green Deal” as the new growth strategy for the EU, Germany must become the driving force. “Because we can not only see through our national glasses what the others are doing, but also the energy transition, the chemical transition, the automobile transition – all of this can only be achieved together in Europe and therefore we must finally strengthen Europe,” explained Baerbock.
