Frankfurt February 27, 2022 marked the end of an aviation legend. The Russian army’s attack on Ukraine had only begun a few days earlier, when it hit the Antonov AN-225 parked at Hostomel Airport near Kyiv. The largest cargo plane in the world, named Mrija – in English: dream – was completely destroyed in an attack.

Since then, rumors have persisted that the Ukrainian aircraft manufacturer Antonov is already working on a new AN-225. Around the first anniversary of the jet’s destruction, speculation about a successor is likely to gain momentum. The plane with its six engines was an icon and was photographed many times.
