Paris Toujours fatigué: A current study on the desolate psychosocial situation of the population is alarming in France – and is causing discussions in the media and social networks about the economic consequences of the collective depression.

The lifestyle of the traditionally rather extroverted French has changed significantly since the pandemic, as the study by the opinion research institute Ifop states. There is talk on the internet of a social trauma that will have a long-lasting effect.

However, the authors of the study use more drastic words to describe the phenomenon: the French are caught in an “epidemic of laziness”, preferring to hide behind the televisions and computers in their homes instead of going to the theater or a café.

This is a real threat to gastronomy, stationary retail, cultural institutions and city centers in general. Since the work ethic has also suffered massively from the trauma, the development for the entire economy of the country is worrying.
