The federal government is lagging behind when it comes to charging station locations

Berlin The energy industry and with it cities and municipalities complain that the federal government has not yet designated any areas on which charging stations for refueling electric cars can be set up. “Essential measures of Master Plan II have not yet been implemented,” a spokesman for the Federal Association of Energy and Water Management told the Handelsblatt. This includes, above all, an overview of suitable areas. He demanded: “The federal government should finally make its areas accessible for charging infrastructure.”

The German Association of Towns and Municipalities agreed with the criticism. “From a municipal perspective, it seems more important than ever that the federal government finally provide its own areas for potential operators,” said a spokesman. “With the so-called area tool, the prerequisites are in place.”

The area tool is a database that the National Control Center for Charging Infrastructure set up and manages on behalf of the federal government. The federal states, municipalities and private individuals are already offering space for investors there, but not the federal government.
