Berlin The Federal Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) is convinced that the urgently needed construction of new gas-fired power plants is at risk. So that Germany is not forced to act hastily, it is necessary to develop an “overall concept for security of supply”, according to the as yet unpublished BDEW policy paper “A new market design for Europe and Germany”, which is available to the Handelsblatt.

“Time is running out. It is therefore not enough to agree on reforms for a post-2030 market design,” said BDEW General Manager Kerstin Andreae to the Handelsblatt. “The reforms that prove necessary must be poured into legislation and administrative action as quickly as possible,” said Andreae. The current market design is “no guarantee that the renewable energy expansion targets set will be achieved and that security of supply will be maintained”. Additional tools are required.
