Prague, Paris When Emmanuel Macron presented his idea of a European Political Community in May, there was great skepticism. “This new European organization enables European nations that share our values to find a new space for political cooperation,” said the French President at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
At the time, the federal government had a cold because it was not privy to the initiative. The Eastern Europeans sensed a French maneuver to slow down EU expansion. And the question arose as to whether Europe really needs another round of talks – a kind of “Eurovision of politics”, where representatives from Iceland to Azerbaijan meet, as in the singing competition.
