Türkiye has been a partner to the F-35 program since 1995. Turkey, which ordered 30 aircraft in the first phase, wanted to establish an F-35 fleet in the Turkish Air Force, with the number to be increased to 100 in the coming years. However, because Turkey needed an air defense system, it signed an S-400 agreement with Russia.
Following this agreement, NATO and the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) saw Turkey as a threat and excluded our country from the scope of the F-35 program on April 21, 2021.
