The 6 Thousand Kilometer Limit is Manipulated on Ad Sites!

The 6 month and 6 thousand kilometer limit imposed by the Ministry of Commerce on second-hand sales began to resonate on advertisement sites. But the echo came from the opposite direction.

The used car market continued to be much higher than the prices of new cars today. The government announced a measure to prevent this situation and make it easier to own a vehicle. Zero vehicles 6 months or 6 thousand kilometers The said regulation, which prevents its sale, came into force last day.

But at least as far as we’ve seen from the first day of the new regulation, this measure didn’t quite work. Because vehicle dealers began to resort to cunning ways to avoid the precaution. New vehicles, just above the 6,000 kilometer limit, Kilometers like ‘6001, 6100, 6500’ listed with values. This situation came up in a test we did as well.

Our testing showed the cunning tactic that sellers used from day one:

Just before the Ministry of Commerce’s 6-month and 6,000-kilometer limit on the sale of new vehicles came into effect, we decided to run a test on the most popular used vehicle sales platform. Within the scope of this test we conducted to see what kind of result the regulation will create, in 2022, we have achieved so far. We selected the 10 best-selling cars and especially the ‘0 kilometers’ information for each vehicle. We added 3 different ads per vehicle to our favourites.

The vehicle models we added to our favorites were as follows:

  • Fiat Egea Sedan
  • Renault Clio HB
  • Toyota Corolla
  • Dacia Duster
  • Fiat Egea Cross
  • Renault Megane Saloon
  • Hyundai i20
  • Renault Talian
  • Hyundai Bayon
  • Volkswagen Passat

Kilometers of new vehicles suddenly increased to 6.001 and above:

One day after the regulation came into effect, that is, on September 16, we took a look at the 30 ads we added to our favourites. Unfortunately, there was no price drop in any of these ads. On the contrary, 21 of the 30 advertisements were removed from publication, 9 of them were edited and continued to be published. We have seen changes in the announcement information of the vehicles.

The view was the same in all of our favorites and unpublished ads: The mileage of the vehicles, It started to show as 6.001 and above. In these updates, the prices of the vehicles did not change in any way; neither down nor out. The mileage information of the vehicles has been updated as follows in 9 of our favorite ads (We chose 3 examples since the situation is the same in all of them):

Not just our favourites, but the entire used market is filled with vehicles with 6,001 kilometers:

second hand

If you go to the websites that sell used cars now, you will start to see ‘6.001+’ mileage vehicles rather than zero mileage vehicles. While the new measure of the Ministry does not seem to have an effect that will relieve the market at the moment, it is aimed at the abuse of this situation. It is not yet known whether any additional measures will come.

Sales to be made without complying with the restrictions do not have a deterrent penalty.
