Tesla Tells SEC It Can Start Accepting Bitcoin Again!

Yesterday, we mentioned in the backstage that Tesla could start accepting Bitcoin again. While the news is still fresh, the first concrete signal came in the documents Tesla submitted to the SEC.

In recently published documents, Tesla said that we can restart the cryptocurrency sales practice that we suspended in May 2021.

The following statements were used in the relevant part of the statement:

“During the nine months ending September 30, 2021, we purchased a total of $1.50 billion in bitcoins. Also, for three months
Subject to applicable law, we accepted Bitcoin as a means of payment for the sale of some of our products in certain regions and suspended this practice in May 2021.

We may relaunch the practice of transacting with cryptocurrencies (“digital assets”) for our products in the future.

We currently account for all digital assets held as a result of these transactions as intangibles with indefinite lives in accordance with ASC 350.”
