Tesla could soon run out of water in Grünheide

Berlin The water conflict over Tesla’s Gigafactory in Grünheide is coming to a head again. The Strausberg-Erkner Water Association (WSE), which according to a contract with Tesla is to supply the plant with 1.4 million cubic meters of water annually, can no longer guarantee this, according to a current statement for the State Environment Agency dated December 8th.

“The WSE must (…) state that the drinking water supply for the proposed project is therefore no longer secure,” says the letter to the approval authority that is available to the daily mirror.

As a reason, reference is made to an ongoing court case at the Frankfurt / Oder administrative court, with the Green League and Nature Conservation Association are suing against increased water pumping rates that the State Environment Agency had approved of the WSE in February 2021 – also because of the Gigafactory.
