Dusseldorf Tesla boss Elon Musk confirmed the expansion plans of the electric car manufacturer in the People’s Republic on Sunday. “Tesla will continuously expand its investment and research activities in China,” said the US entrepreneur in a video message at the opening of the state-organized World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China.

Just a few months ago, the company opened its own data center in China in order to be able to evaluate the data generated by Chinese customers.

The country has strict requirements for the export of data sets, which prohibit foreign companies from collecting and processing data from Chinese citizens on servers outside of the Chinese national territory.

Still, Musk praised the country’s digital policy: “We at Tesla are delighted with some laws and regulations that aim to strengthen data management,” said Musk.

With the conciliatory statements, the tech manager sets a counterpoint to the recent confrontational course of the Chinese government towards the domestic technology industry. Large Internet companies such as Alibaba and Tencent have recently been exposed to increased levels of government intervention aimed at limiting the companies’ market power.

In addition to Musk, other Western managers such as Intel boss Pat Gelsinger and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon also took part in the conference. They also want to expand their business in China.
