Tax relief should be checked for social justice

Berlin SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert has warned Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) for “smart, socially just relief”. “The finance minister will present us with a draft budget for 2023,” said Kühnert in an interview published on Sunday with the Reuters news agency. “Then we’ll see what’s in there for smart, socially just relief.”

Today’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as finance minister, has already initiated major reliefs such as the reduction of the EEG surcharge. “Christian Lindner will certainly include that in his balance sheet now, but that doesn’t matter. The SPD is not resentful and gladly shares the success, ”added the SPD member of the Bundestag.

Lindner had announced that it would relieve “people and the middle class” by “significantly more than 30 billion euros” in this legislative period ”. The discharges are included in his draft budget for 2023. Kühnert emphasized that the most sustained relief would be possible “if the domestic labor market can release the Corona brake with a strong ‘thump'”.

To this end, the Ampel-Coalition will make high investments in the sectors of energy transition, digitization, sustainable mobility and affordable housing. Smart investments and relief often went hand in hand. This is the case, for example, in residential construction, where the traffic light increases the straight-line depreciation (depreciation) from two to three percent per year and thus creates both tax relief and an incentive to make urgently needed investments.
