Stiko now recommends Booster from the age of twelve – France’s teachers are on strike against Corona rules

The vaccinations against the corona virus are progressing a little faster in Germany. 780,000 vaccine doses were administered on Wednesday, around 66,000 more than the day before. This was announced by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin on Thursday via its dashboard. On average over the past 7 days there have been 593,000 vaccinations a day, i.e. 7 people per second.

According to the RKI, at least 60.1 million people or 72.3 percent of the total population have been vaccinated twice or have received the single vaccination from Johnson & Johnson. The federal government is aiming for 80 percent by the end of January. 37.5 million or 45.1 percent have already received a booster vaccination. This is important for effective protection against the more contagious virus variant Omikron.

The highest percentage of booster vaccinations have (as of Thursday 10.30 a.m.) the Saarland with 54.1 percent as well as Lower Saxony, Bremen and Schleswig-Holstein with 49.2 to 49.6 percent. Saxony has the lowest booster share with 35.7 percent and Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Thuringia with 38.4 to 39.6 percent.

20.9 million people, or a good quarter of the population, are still not vaccinated. This also includes 4.0 million small children up to the age of 4 for whom no vaccine has yet been approved.

On the RKI dashboard, it is pointed out that the vaccination rates are to be understood as minimum vaccination rates, “since 100% coverage cannot be achieved by the reporting system”. The Robert Koch Institute assumes that the actual vaccination rate is up to five percentage points higher.
