“To tell the truth, we can say that we are surprised by the latest regulation regarding the Import of Electric Vehicles. Yes, due to the increase in the number of electric vehicle brands that have recently started to enter the Turkish market, it seemed inevitable that some precautions would be taken, especially in order to prevent consumers from being victimized.

As ODMD, we believe that standards regarding electric vehicles, which are still a new technology, should be determined and implemented in all details. Issues such as the facilities where vehicles will receive service and repair services, the safety equipment in these facilities, and the training of technical personnel who will serve the vehicles are of vital importance. For example, the intervention of an untrained technician in an electric vehicle poses a high risk for the technician’s life safety. Likewise, we agree that in case of a negative situation that may occur during the service and repair of an electric vehicle, the necessary training should be received on how to intervene in the vehicle and the intervention equipment should be available as standard in authorized dealers providing service.

However, on the other hand, we think that, beyond the above-mentioned purpose, measures that reach a point of obstructing trade may cause discouragement for domestic and foreign investors planning to invest in our country. We believe that practices that will hinder the improvement of the investment environment should be avoided. With the latest notification, a situation has arisen that aims to prevent the sale of not only new brands and models that will enter the market, but also many models of established brands in our country and even those with production investments.

All safety standards required by electric vehicle technology should be determined and a requirement for their exact implementation should be made. In this way, the safety of both the electric vehicle user and the technicians serving the vehicle should be ensured at the highest level, and no brand should be allowed to enter the market without meeting the required standards. However, electric vehicles, which are accepted all over the world, should not be prevented from creating a competitive environment for the benefit of citizens.“
